On July 17, the National Museum of Georgia launched a three-day training seminar on "Protection of Cultural Heritage in times of crisis." Levan Kharatishvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, welcomed the participants, organizers and speakers. He emphasized the need for such trainings, as both Georgia and the whole world are constantly facing new challenges in the field of cultural heritage protection and it is essential that experts in the field share the latest approaches and international experience.

This training and public lecture was organized by the ICOM National Committee of Georgia and ICOM / DRMC (ICOM International Disaster Risk Management Committee) and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and the US, with the support of the Embassy of the United States to Georgia. The training will be attended by the staff of South Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan) museums, the Department of National Treasury and Cultural Heritage Preservation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and various cultural heritage specialists and experts.

Theoretical-practical training includes:

- Emergency preparedness and management;

- Basic operating principles and strategies for the protection and risk management of museum and cultural heritage artifacts

- Injury and risk assessment mechanisms, as well as data documentation in crisis and emergency situations;

- Modern methods of world experience and risk management in the field of cultural heritage protection.

The training is conducted under the guidance of ICOM / DRMC President, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Smithsonian Institution - Corinne Wegener.
