The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli held a meeting with rectors of higher education institutions authorized in Georgia and introduced them to the decisions of the Interagency Council on the new Coronavirus.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli stated, that given the current situation when the World Health Organization declares the outbreak as a pandemic and the Georgian government switches to a 24-hour emergency regime, the primary task of the ministry is to take care of the health of its students and the university personnel.

Consequently, every university faces a common challenge - the use of e-learning in teaching. This process should be facilitated through mutual support and sharing of experience between the universities.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today a meeting of the Rector's Council was held, where we presented the recommendations of the Ministry regarding the educational process. As you know, the holidays in all schools across the country are prolonged until April 1 and we have recommended to the rectors of higher education institutions to start working with students using the electronic component from March 16 to April 1. This will allow universities to continue their online teaching method in a hybrid form after April 1, when students return to their classrooms. It is very important for universities to work together in this regard, as it is now time to show academic collegiality, and compassion. I have promised  our rectors, The Ministry will  remain by their side, to effectively introduce the Online Learning Component".

During the meeting, Mikheil Chkhenkeli gave a detailed answers to any additional questions of the attendees, who expressed their readiness to work in a coordinated manner to overcome the challenge facing the country.
