The 44th International Competition of vocational skills held in Abu Dhabi (Worldskills) ended with the award of winners – one of seven Georgian participants, Zurab Shavishvili, student of Kobuleti vocational college “Akhali Talga”, was given the best representative awards of the restaurant service competition.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia held a meeting with representatives of institutions implementing vocational education programs, directors and quality managers with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). At WorldSkills 44th International Competition in Abu-Dhabi, the Worldskills Georgia team competed in 7 professions - Cookery, Confectionery, Restaurant Service, Hairdressing , Graphic Design, Information Networking and Webdesign for several days with successful competitors such as - the United States of America, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, China and others. The competition, which comprises 1300 delegates from 78 countries, is one of the largest projects in the world, is held every two years in a different countries and has hundreds of thousands of viewers both schoolchildren and large business representatives, who are watching and collaborating with many of them. As Worldskills President Simon Bartley says - participation in this competition already means victory.

The process of submitting the unified strategy and action plan in the new format of education and science has moved to the stage of public discussion. A public discussion of the general education strategy of the Strategy was held at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

Quality management mechanisms in public schools are improved and for this purpose, the monitoring module of the School Management Information System (eschool.emis.ge) has been added. In this module, different structural units of the Ministry of Education and Science will have the vision and editing regime.

Presentation of the preschool education direction was held within the framework of the Unified Strategy of Education and Science in 2017-2022. The presentation was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Lia Gigauri, Director of the Tbilisi Kindergarten Association Mr. Temur Tordinava, the directors of the kindergartens and representatives of various governmental and non-governmental agencies.

WorldSkills 44th International competition has been solemnly opened in Abu-Dhabi.The opening ceremony was attended by Georgian delegation which was composed of graduates of vocational colleges, teachers and consultants along with the representatives from around 80 countries. The Georgian delegation was led by the First Deputy Minister Ketevan Natriashvili and Director of National Centre for educational Quality Enhancement Tamar Sanikidze.

Those interested in receiving vocational education are being able to register for the desirable educational programs till October 15 and acquire more than 100 full state-funded programs in the different directions, inter alia, innovative and modern programs in marine, engineering, tourism, information technologies, aviation and agriculture which are highly demanded by employers, are funded by Millennium Challenge Account.
