The Executive Committee meeting of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia was attended by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport - Mikheil Chkhenkeli. The Minister spoke about the recent achievements of the Georgian athletes and pledged full support to the Olympic Committee and the Sport Federations in the preparation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “This year is especially important for Georgian sport. This is an Olympic year. The Ministry will do its best to present Georgia with dignity at the Olympics! Naturally, participating at the Olympics is a great honor for our country and for every athlete. However, with participation, a successful result is important and desirable. 2019, was a special year for the Georgian sport. Six World Olympic champions, for a small country like Georgia, on one hand is a great achievement, but on the other, this outcome bears special responsibility. We will do everything to strengthen the status of a successful sports country in Tokyo! "
The session of the Executive Committee was chaired by the President - Leri Khabelovi. Along with Mikheil Chkhenkeli, they received information from representatives of federations about the athletes' current training. The meeting outlined the main objectives where the role of the Ministry is particularly important. The Minister expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Olympic Committee and with various Federations.
The session discussed issues related to the preparation of Georgian athletes for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Georgian delegation to the Winter Youth Olympic Games and the possibility to hold the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival in Borjomi and Bakuriani.
