Measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the fields of education, science, culture and sports

With regards to the prevention of Coronavirus (COVID-19), and due to the declared state of emergency in the country; the Presidential decree dictates, the teaching process to be continued uninterrupted, and the government be given the right to define necessary changes in terms and conditions for the previously established rules and regulations over the “Early and Preschool Education”, “General Education”, “Vocational Education”, “Special Vocational Education”,  and “Higher Education”.

In line with the Presidential Decree, the Government has issued a resolution on measures to prevent the spread of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia, which stipulates the following points in the fields of education, science, culture and sport:

Suspend educational activities until 21 April 2020 at the educational institutions. General education and higher education institutions should continue only using various forms of distance/remote learning and communication (if applicable).

  • All faculty and administration members of educational and research institutions to switch to remote working mode until April 21, 2020 (unless critical necessity arises).
  • To prohibit and ban all kinds of trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops, unless it’s arranged remotely.
  • All administrative proceedings, under the authorization and accreditation provisions, as well as, all administrative proceedings related to obtaining the right to carry out vocational training and trainings of vocational public servants, if not executed remotely, to be deemed suspended, until the state of emergency is ceased.
  • To ban all cultural events, both indoors and outdoors, including concerts, performances, temporary and permanent exhibitions, rehearsals, tours, master classes, trainings and conferences, unless arranged in a remote fashion.
  • To ban all types of mass sporting events, including competitions, trainings, both indoors and outdoors, unless it is arranged in a remote fashion and incorporates distance learning.
