International Museum Day was established on May 18, 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and has been celebrated by the International Museum Society for more than 40 years. It is on the International Museum Day that museums from different countries plan creative events and activities related to the theme of the International Museum Day every year.
Within the framework of the International Museum Day, with the initiative and support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, "Night at the Museum" promotion is being held in almost all museums of Georgia. The visitor is given the opportunity to visit a museum of their preference and become a participant in a designated cultural event held within the scope of the promotion. This year, due to the limitations caused by the pandemic, and based on the recommendations provided by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the date of the rally “Night at the Museum” has been set to November 14-16, 2020.
