Shalva Gogoladze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with Paata Guraspauli, President of the Basketball Federation, visited the construction of a new, multifunctional sports palace near the Maghlivi university building in Tbilisi.

Notably, despite the COVID-19 crisis, the multifunctional, new sports palace construction process for 10,000 spectators has not halted. The work is being carried out in full compliance with the strict recommendations and rules developed by the Interagency Coordinating Council and the Ministry of Health of Georgia.

Construction continues due to pre-arranged dates, according to which the new Sports Palace will be in full readiness in the summer of 2021.

For the first time in history, Georgia is the host country of one of the group stages of the European Basketball Championship. Due to the crisis caused by the virus, the European Basketball Championship, as well as the Summer Olympics and the European Football Championship, have been postponed for a year. Evidently the Eurobasket 2021 will be held in 2022. Despite the delay, if FIBA were to hold the European Championship in a pre-arranged time, the Tbilisi New Sports Palace would meet the largest basketball forum in full readiness.

As of today, various important works of the initial stage of the arrangement and construction of the foundation have been completed, as well as the construction of chimneys (110 pieces). Relevant information banners are placed on the construction site. All sanitary and safety norms are observed at the construction site.
