For the first time, MES identified the best student, teacher, school principal, public and private schools and the Head of resource center of the year.
Tsotne Tabidze – 12th grader of Kutaisi Razmadze physics-mathematical school was nominated as the best student. Tsotne Tabidze is the three time winner of 2010 National Educational Olympiad. He took the first places in mathematics and informatics and the third place in physics.
Ivane Kvitashvili – teacher of Tbilisi Komarov Physics-Mathematical School was nominated as the best teacher. Mr. Kvitashvili is the holder of the Medal of Honor for the achievement in school children International Mathematics Olympiad. 10 Students of Ivane Kvitashvili are the winners of 2010 Mathematics Olympiad.
Marina Chaganava – Principal of Tbilisi Public School #94 was identified as the best school principal. Ms. Chaganava is actively involved in school development activities. Many events are being held with her initiative, school infrastructure is systematically improved as well. Ms. Chaganava attracted investors and as a result, in 2010 school was provided with the swimming pool that is in compliance with modern standards. In the scope of replacing physical fitness lessons with sports classes, school children will be given swimming and water polo lessons. 2 candidates of golden medals and 6 candidates of silver medal study at this school.
Lela Imedashvili was nominated as the best Head of Ozurgeti resource center. She participated in different trainings and seminars. She organized many events and trainings. Among them were “Interactive Studying at schools” of UN Office in Georgia, program of Personal Computers, School Partnership Program, School Grant Program, seminars for retraining the staff of resource centers, planning National Curricula, financial management of schools and etc. different new initiatives are being planned in Ozurgeti schools with the support Ms. Imedashvili. Teachers are permanently informed about the innovations.
Caucasian New French School was nominated as the best school. Caucasian French School is being supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France. The full program from pre-school level to general education will be carried out by the French teachers. Small number of school children will be included in all forms of each level. (16-18 school children in each form, totally 240-270 school children). This will be the guarantee of quality.
Waldorf Free School was nominated as the best public school #196 of Tbilisi. Scientific, art and practical subjects are equally taught at this school. Children’s age specificities are considered as well. Intensive teaching methodology functions in this school considering school specificity and adults’ ability of mastering.
G. Zaldastanishvili American Academy in Tbilisi was nominated as the best private school. One of the main goals of the academy is teaching the school children history and culture of Georgia thoroughly, developing respect towards Georgian history and culture as well as introducing Western pedagogic methodology.
53 12th graders study in American Academy. Many of them will continue studying at the leading universities of Europe, USA and Great Britain. But they plan to begin career in native country.
Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini presented the winners of above mentioned nominations with specially created rewards. He noted, MES will always encourage successful students, teachers and principals as well as private and public schools in order to maintain motivation for greater success.
The best students, teachers, school principals, private and public schools as well as resource centers will be identified every year.
