On July 2, 1924, a few days after the start of the Paris Olympics, the International Sports Press Association was founded. The Association soon became a unifying organization of sports journalists from various countries.

World Sports Journalists Day has been celebrated in Georgia since 2010. "Bacho Cup", named after Bacho Svanidze, a young sports journalist who passed away prematurely, has always been of special interest. Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the ministry decided not to hold the traditional event this year.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia congratulates sports journalists and sports media representatives on their professional day and wishes them success in their personal lives and careers.
