Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, Rector of Iv.Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, George Khubua and Director of National Scientific Library, Irakli Gharibashvili attended the award ceremony of 62 specialists of TSU library. Librarians were awarded with certificates.
By the order of TSU governing body, librarians of TSU passed the training at National Scientific Library Qualification Advancement Educational Center.
By the announcement of Dimitri Shashkini, retraining of librarians and introducing modern methods to them is very important especially in the period, when MES implements the project of refurbishing school libraries and supplying them with appropriate literature. New program “Book Buddy” will be launched in the next academic year. Famous people will visit schools in order to personally read literature publicly, speak with the school children about the importance of books and suggest reading books to in the scope of the program. Minister said, all librarians will be retrained at Librarians’ Qualification Advancement Educational Center.
The center was established in 2007. Heads and librarians of central libraries and scientific-research institutions have been already retrained. Representatives of National Manuscript Center, Ministry of Justice, National Museum and library of the Institute of Georgian Literature were among them as well. Librarians of more than 50 schools passed the trainings.
Seminars, trainings and presentations on different issues of information and library affairs are permanently held in the educational center. Educational programs together with the traditional professional issues of library affairs envisage studying of principles of modern librarian and IT standards and library management.
National Scientific Library was established in 1941. 3,000,000 scientific literatures, 2, 500,000 journals and 20,000,000 patents are kept in this library. Several unique publications, dated by 1530 year and scientific books in foreign languages that are the only publications in Georgia are saved in the bookstore of this library.
