The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli hosted the winners of the 4th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) at the Ministry and congratulated them on their successful competition.
Members of the Georgian national team at the Olympics: Luka Mosiashvili - won gold, Ioseb Rigvava - won silver, and Keta Tsimakuridze and Luka Meladze - won bronze medals. It should be noted that Luka Mosiashvili was among the four strongest students in Europe. On September 13-19, Georgian students will participate in the 32nd World Olympiad.
In his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that despite the novel coronavirus pandemic, students were able to discover their special abilities and manage to pull through. The Minister wished the youth a successful competition on their upcoming 32nd World Olympics.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli also introduced the students to the concept of a mega-project of historical significance - Kutaisi International University and offered them to be involved in the academic life of this university. According to the Minister, Kutaisi International University will be a great arena for talented young people.
It is important to note, that the 4th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics was organized by Georgia in an online format between September 2-6. The Minister stressed that the hosting of the Olympics gave Georgia an opportunity to show the country's achievements in terms of development of modern information technologies. According to him, Georgia was able to organize a high quality event at the European level.
Despite the global pandemic and force majeure situation, Georgia has been highly praised and thanked for hosting the Olympiad at a high level.
A record number of up to 30 countries participated in the Olympiad this year. The technical and infrastructural support of the Olympiad was provided by the International Black Sea University and the Georgian Research and Educational Networking Association - GRENA, organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
It should be noted that according to the decision of the International Committee, the 5th Junior Olympiad in Informatics Europe 2021 will be held in a traditional format and will be hosted by Georgia again. Junior Olympiad in Informatics is an important international event aimed at the development of information technology in the member states of the Council of Europe. It is held according to the rules and standards of the International Olympiad in Informatics. The first European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) was held in Bulgaria in 2017.
