Presentation of the new portal www.buki.ge was held at MES. Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini introduced the netbook “Buki” to 50 first graders of Tbilisi First Experimental School and their parents. By the initiative of the President of Georgia, new project will be launched at Batuimi, Zugdidi and Tserovani schools as well as three pilot schools of Kutaisi and three pilot schools of Tbilisi from September 2010. The first graders of above-mentioned schools will be presented with netbooks in the scope of this project.

MES created new portal www.buki.ge in the scope of the program Using Modern Technologies in the Educational process. Educational-cognitive games, electronic versions of textbooks and literature will be posted on this portal. Interested people will get familiarized with the using methodology of the modern technologies on the new portal. This will make studying more interesting and interactional.

The first graders will receive minicomputers “Buki” that were created with the recommendations of UN experts. Many competent specialists of all over the world worked on the netbook to make them easy for the school children. Introducing the netbooks at schools doesn’t mean abolishing the textbooks. Computers will be an additional source of informational.

2,500 first graders and teachers of the pilot schools will receive computers in September. Teachers of these schools will be trained in August in order to get familiarized with the using methods of these computers in the educational process. Educational programs in foreign languages, Georgian, mathematics and logic will be uploaded in the computer. School children who will not be able to buy textbooks in other subjects will have an opportunity to use free electronic versions of these books that will be uploaded as well. Besides the textbooks, additional literature will be uploaded in the computer.

Netbook that is designed as a supplementary source, will be actively used in the educational process together with the textbooks from the new academic year.
