The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli attended the presentation of a joint Georgian-French two-degree program at the Georgian Technical University. The joint educational program of the Georgian Technical University and René University of France was launched within the framework of the French-Georgian University established with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the Embassy of France in Georgia. The presentation was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Georgia, Diego Colas and the Head of the Administration of the French-Georgian University, David Teurtrie.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli addressed the public and spoke about the importance of introducing joint programs in the Georgian education system in cooperation with leading foreign universities.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “I am glad to be at the Georgian Technical University today and I have the opportunity to congratulate you on the launch of the Georgian-French bachelor's degree program.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the French Government for its support and long-term cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture.

It should be noted that the launch of the Georgian-French bachelor's degree program is another step forward in terms of internationalization of the higher education system. It is important to offer Georgian students a variety of dual degree programs at Georgian universities, making Georgia an integral part of the European educational space.”

During the academic year of 2020-2021, for the first time, 12 students have been selected to study at the Georgian-French joint bachelor's program of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering, who will receive a double Georgian-French diploma after graduation. The program is taught in English, led by Georgian professors together with French colleagues.

After the presentation, GTU Rector, Davit Gurgenidze inspected the Minister's teaching infrastructure, in particular, laboratories equipped with the latest equipment in food safety, microbiology and biology.

Since 2018, within the scope of French-Georgian University, the Georgian Technical University has been closely cooperating with the French Montpellier "Supagro". The cooperation envisages the introduction of a two-degree master's program - "Winemaking and Viticulture". In the near future, the master's program at GTU - "Viticulture and Winemaking" will become a member of a consortium of European similar master's programs such as Europeam Master of Science of Viticulture and Enology.
