Mikheil Chkhenkeli, a candidate running for the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, addressed the joint committees of the Parliament of Georgia and introduced important projects to the public.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Our team has a good understanding of the importance of raising a child. To this end, state standards of early and preschool education have been developed and introduced, which will help teachers of preschool institutions in organizing the upbringing and the subsequent educational process. Additionally, several vital measures are planned to implement the "Code of the Rights of the Child."
The ministerial candidate focused on providing a safe educational environment for educators and children, noting that the ministry has developed a document on the opening and operation of kindergartens, which will eventually serve as a guide for preschool institutions in the post-pandemic era.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that active efforts are in-progress to introduce bilingual education in preschool institutions. Programs and mechanisms to support the transition from kindergarten to school are also being developed.
Furthermore, Mr. Chkhenkeli stressed the importance of involving universities in the process of supporting the development of preschool education. According to him, from 2021 onwards, Georgian higher education institutions will start implementing the bachelor's program for educators. And to attract qualified personnel, Mikheil Chkhenkeli spoke about redefining the salary policy for pre-school teachers.
