Every year, the French Language and Francophonie is celebrated with varied and engaging projects.
This year the events will be held with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the French Institute of Georgia, the Embassies of France, Switzerland, Canada and Belgium and in cooperation with various Georgian schools and universities.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Nunu Mitskevichi, French Ambassador to Georgia, Diego Colas, Swiss Ambassador to Georgia, Patrick Franzen and Director of the French Institute of Georgia, Pierre Cluj spoke at a press conference at the Ministry about the events planned for 2021.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the activities planned within the framework of the Francophonie will be held mainly in an online format. The official slogan of the month of Francophonie in Georgia this year is: "French - a language that brings us closer." An online conference on the same topic is planned, an education exhibition "Choose to Study in France" will be held under the auspices of Campus France, French-language films will be screened, a Geronti Kikodze Literary Prize will be awarded for the best Georgian translation of a French-language novel. Within the framework of Francophonie 2021, competitions will traditionally be held for students and schoolchildren. The winners will be awarded with special prizes and certificates.
The events will be hosted in Kutaisi, Batumi and Sagarejo (Patardzeuli).
The celebration of the French Language and Francophonie is traditionally celebrated around the world on March 20 each year. Cultural and educational events in French or related to the French language are held throughout the month. Georgia has been a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie since 2004 as an observer member. Six Georgian universities are involved in the Francophonie University Agency.
