Georgia hosted the 10th European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO 2021). Ana Onoprishvili, a 12th grade student of Tbilisi Public School N199, won a gold medal at the virtually held Olympiad, organized at Akaki Tsereteli State University. The remote Olympiad comprised of 213 representatives from 54 countries.
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli delivered a speech at the closing ceremony of the Olympiad. The minister congratulated the winners and noted that, it is of extreme importance to test the strength and competence in such prestigious and famous competition.
"I would like to cordially congratulate the winners and participants of the Olympiad. Your capabilities are truly outstanding. Please make sure to continue to further improve your skills. I am sure that many more successes await you in the international or local competitions." – stated Mikheil Chkhenkeli.
Furthermore, according to the Minister, he is proud that the Georgian girls' team has been participating in this Olympics since 2016 and overall have shown desirable results.
Despite the pandemic, Akaki Tsereteli State University was able to successfully host the European Girls' Olympiad in Mathematics online. There were 54 countries participating in the Olympiad, which was the highest rate in the history of EGMO. Georgia, as a host country, was represented at the Olympics by eight members. Fifteen of the girls participating in the Olympiad won gold medals, whereas thirty-three of them won the silver, and thirty-five acquired bronze medals.
