The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli held an online meeting with international donor organizations. Together with the Ministry, these organizations are implementing several important projects for the development of education.
The purpose of the meeting was to develop an effective mechanism for communication and coordination with international donor organizations, taking into account the strategic priorities of the Ministry. It is planned to create a unified platform, where the progress made in the education sector will be evaluated, current programs of donors and other participants will be discussed, investment needs will be clarified, and new joint project ideas will be generated.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the international donor organizations for supporting the development of the education system in Georgia over the years, spoke about the importance of human capital development and stressed the importance of the support and involvement of international donor organizations in this process.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “The Government of Georgia has a very important obligation to equip every citizen of Georgia with the necessary skills and to ensure equal access to quality education. "Development of human capital is our main goal, because it is a necessary precondition for the economic prosperity and long-term growth of the country."
The Minister noted that at this stage, a strategy and action plan for education and science for 2022-2032 is being developed, which is focused on quality education and improving the governance system. He said that the participation of international donor organizations in the process of developing this strategy is very important.
During the conversation, Mikheil Chkhenkeli addressed the challenges of an unprecedented scale caused by the pandemic, which created the need to adapt the education system to the new reality. The Minister stressed the importance of creating a strong and sustainable education system in close cooperation with the international community, ensuring a competitive workforce and equal access to educational services.
Representatives of the European Union, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), USAID, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Goethe Institute, the British Council, the French Institute and other international organizations participated in the meeting.
