The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli hosted the winning Georgian team at the 34th International Physics Tournament and congratulated them on their success. The Minister noted that by participating in the tournament, young people were able to show their special abilities, and deepen their scientific research skills, which is especially important in the era of scientific achievements. According to Mikheil Chkhenkeli, it is gratifying that such a prestigious and large-scale tournament was hosted by Kutaisi International University.
The Minister introduced the concept of Kutaisi International University to the students. According to him, Kutaisi International University will be a very big arena for talented young people. Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that the creation of a scientific research space of European standards in Georgia became possible as a result of the extremely important charity of the author of the idea and concept of the university, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family. Academic programs at the University are created in collaboration with the world's leading universities. In the near future it is planned to introduce a doctoral program in physics at Kutaisi International University, and at the next stage there will be bachelor's and master's programs as well. The scientific-research process with the involvement of Georgian and foreign scientists will be conducted at the Hadron Therapy Center, where one cyclotron will be used for the treatment of tumours, and the other will be used only for scientific research.
Georgian national team competed among about 30 countries participating in this year's championship with the following composition: national team captain Nikoloz Nikuradze, Nikoloz Maltsev, Nini Kuchuloria, Levan Lolashvili and Nene Zhvania. It should be noted that in 1996, the 9th International Tournament of Young Physicists was held in Tskaltubo, Georgia. After a 25-year pause, the international tournament of young physicists was again hosted by Georgia, specifically by Kutaisi International University. The winner of the tournament was the Polish team, the second place was taken by Slovakia, and the third place was taken by the Austrian teams. The winners were awarded medals and special prizes.
The meeting was attended by: Rector of Kutaisi International University Alexander Tevzadze, Director of Cartu Foundation Vakhtang Tsagareli, as well as the head of the Georgian team Giorgi Bakhtadze, head and organizer Tsotne Dadiani, organizers: Temur Gachechiladze and Giorgi Khomeriki.
The International Tournament of Young Physicists, often referred to as the Physics World Cup, is held annually and is an important intellectual competition for high school students. The aim of the tournament is to demonstrate the skills of the participants - to successfully solve the problems posed in physics, to present the results of research and to be able to defend them in scientific discussions with opposing teams.
The international tournament for young physicists is supported by Kutaisi International University, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Kutaisi Municipality and the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency.
