The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevichi met with the Director of the Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation Jaba Samushia and with representatives of the Georgian Students' World Union.
Nunu Mitskevichi noted that one of the main priorities of the Ministry is to support an environment tailored to the interests of students in universities. The Deputy Minister stressed that the Ministry is open to involve all stakeholders in this process. For this purpose, meetings with students are held regularly and current issues in the field of higher education are discussed with their involvement.
At the meeting, Nunu Mitskevichi briefed the representatives of the student organization on the activities of the International Education Center. According to her, the centre has given many Georgian students the opportunity to study at various universities abroad and in the future will offer them even more diverse scholarship programs.
The Deputy Minister also focused on promoting the mobility of foreign students and noted that the Ministry offers them certain enrolment procedures to continue their studies in Georgian higher education institutions. At the same time, mechanisms for their safe return to the country were developed for students from foreign countries during the pandemic.
For their part, the students shared their visions and initiatives with the Deputy Minister in terms of promoting students living abroad.
Jaba Samushia introduced the students to the opportunities of the scientific diaspora to participate in the scientific grant competitions organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
The parties also talked about the support of young scientists and discussed the programs offered by the Shota Rustaveli National Foundation and the opportunities to participate in international grant competitions within the framework of the EU framework program "Horizon Europe".
International non-governmental organization - "World Union of Georgian Students" (WUGS) was founded in 2013 and its main goal is to unite and support Georgian students and student organizations living abroad. In addition, the organization helps Georgian students to find opportunities to continue their studies abroad, as well as in the process of adaptation after arriving abroad.
