Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkini held a meeting with the Minister of Defense Bacho Akhalaia, the Minster of Health, Labor and Social Affairs Alexander Kvitashvili, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources Davit Ioseliani, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterine Zghuladze concerning a New Curriculum on Civil Defense and Safety.
“From September 2010 a new course on Civil Defense and Safety will be added to the National Curriculum. The course will cover such areas as: civil defense, road safety, first aid, history of the Georgian Army and review of the Georgian armament. It’s important to mention that the reform is positively assessed by both, the teachers and the pupils”, the Minister said before starting a meeting.
It was decided that together with the specialists of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the working group will be composed of the representatives from the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources, as well as foreign experts.
The inter-agency working group staffed with experts will complete working on the concept of the Civil Defense and Safety course curriculum in April 2010. According to the specially designed methodology, certain pilot schools will be selected where a new course on the Civil Defense and Safety will be introduced. Based on the assessment results of the pilot project, the Civil Defense and Safety course will be finalized and will become a mandatory subject in the secondary schools.
