In 2010, 5 million GEL will be allocated from the state budget to finance 103 scientific projects within the framework of the State Science Grant competition and 31 projects within the framework of the Presidential Grants competition for Young Scholars.

On 22 January, this decision was approved by the Scientific Board, based on the assessment of the international and local experts. The Georgia National Science Foundation (GNSF) administers the State Science Grant Competitions.

The scientific board meeting was presided over by the Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkini. As he said, the Georgian Government does its best to further develop science. “Introduction of the state grant system enabled us to raise the salary of the scientists twenty as much. Currently, more than 2000 scientists and 1000 technical staff are engaged in more than 350 scientific projects. Up to 20 million GEL is allocated from the state budget annually to finance the scientific projects,” the Minister said.
