Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, participated in the 26th session of the Council of Europe Standing Conference of Ministers of Education - “The transformative power of education: universal values and civic renewal” in Strasbourg as a key note speaker.
In his speech, Giorgi Amilakhvari focused on the importance of the civic mission of education in strengthening the societies and consolidating democracy of European countries in the modern, rapidly developing world. The Minister noted that today the world is facing various challenges and development of education is the main priority to overcome those challenges.
As Minister Amilakhvari stated, the Government of Georgia has always been particularly supporting the education reform. Giorgi Amilakhvari emphasized maximum access to education for all members of the society as one of the main achievements of the country. According to him, the main goal of the Ministry today is to ensure access to quality education and provision of inclusive, equal, healthy educational environment for everyone.
"When we are speaking about education, it is important to highlight its main civic mission - eliminating inequality, strengthening peace and supporting democracy, which can be achieved by strengthening democratic culture and values and raising awareness in human rights.
The goal of the Georgian Government is to ensure the constitutional right to receive high-quality, European-standard education for all.
We are working actively to eliminate inequalities in the education and science system and to create opportunities for each individual to unlock maximum level of their potential. It is our priority that young generation acquires values and skills that will contribute to their personal and professional growth.
We continue strengthening cooperation with the West - our partner countries, in order to further improve the education system and contribute to the common efforts directed at developing global society and democratic principles!" - stated Giorgi Amilakhvari.
On the sidelines of the Ministerial conference, Giorgi Amilakhvari also held meetings with his ministerial counterparts of partner countries.
The Standing Conference of Ministers of Education is organized by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The purpose of the event is to strengthen cooperation between countries in the field of education and science in Europe and to share best practices in this direction.
The 2023 Conference highlighted the importance of renewing the civic mission of education and supporting the development of digital technologies in the situation of global crisis and challenges. Education ministers of 46 countries participated in the conference held in Strasbourg.
