Around 800 students Will be financed in the Scope of the Social Program

First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Koka Seperteladze held a briefing on the State Education Grants.

According to Koka Seperteladze, registration begins for the students who passed Unified Entry Exams and meet the requirements for participation in the social program.

Education grant will be issued for certain first level students of higher academic education or higher professional educational programs in 2010-2011 academic years in the scope of the social program. Around 800 students will be financed.

,, We will issue grants for the refugees from occupied territories, students who are the children of the people,who died in the war, invalids, members of the large families, students from the vulnerable families and representatives of ethnic minorities as well” – announced Koka Seperteladze. Grants gained by the students of these categories will be 100% supplemented. Students of certain categories, who were enrolled at the natural science and technical specialties and could not gain the grant, will be financed by the initiative of the President.

In the framework of the social program, 1.073 000 Gel is allocated for the students who were enrolled in accredited higher educational institutions in 2010-2011 academic years.

Who will be able to gain funding in the scope of the social program?

Students, who were enrolled in the higher educational institution according to the Unified Entry Exams and could not obtain the full amount of the grant, or gained the partial grant and are included in one of these following categories:

  • 180 students, who studied during the last two years and received the complete general education approval document of the general educational institution located on the occupied territory according to the Georgian law on Occupied Territories (hereinafter occupied territory) or the students whose complete general education was recognized according to the rule, defined by MES.   Students, who studied on the occupied territory two years earlier before August 7, 2008 and receive  the complete general education approval document out of the borders of occupied territory, from:
  • Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, including Azhara municipality;
  • Tskhinvali region (territories of the former South Ossetia region), including Qurta, Eredvi and Akhalgori municipalities;
  • Village of Perevi of Sachkhere municipality.
  • 45 students, who are the children of the people who died in the war for the territorial integrity of Georgia or the people who were lost.
  • 6 students with sharply expressed limited abilities.

Students who were enrolled in higher educational institution as the result of Unified Entry Exam, gained the full or partial grant in the scope of the social program or could not gain the full or partial grant according to the Unified Entry Exams but were enrolled in higher educational institution at the following educational programs: engineering, agrarian, exact sciences, natural sciences, informational technologies and are included in one of the following categories:

  • 153 students, who studied during the last three years and obtained the complete general education approval document of the general educational institutions located in the mountainous regions or the regions of ecologic migration;
  • 15 students, who studied during the last three years and obtained the complete general education approval document of Azerbaijanian general educational institutions.
  • 15 students, who studied during the last three years and obtained the complete general education approval document of Armenian general educational institutions.
  • 2 students, who are descendants of the population of Samtskhe-Javakheti who were deported from Georgia during the Soviet regime;
  • 20 orphan students (without parents);
  • 20 students, who are from the large family (four and more children);
  • 20 students, whose families are registered in the unified base of vulnerable families and the rating score of their families’ amounts to or is less than 70,000.

If the sum envisaged in the program will not be fully distributed to the defined categories, it will be distributed:

  • To the students, who are the children of the people who died in the war for the territorial integrity of Georgia or the people who were lost  and they were enrolled according to the Unified Entry Exams and could not gain the full grant of gained the partial grant, including 2009-2010, 2008-2009, 2007-2008 academic years in the scope of the social program;
  • Students with sharply expressed limited abilities.

In order to gain the state funding in the scope of the social program, student should provide application. The form of application and the list of documents that should be provided are approved by the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia №656, August 16, 2010.
