According to the changes in the National Curriculum, physical fitness lessons will be replaced with sports classes from 2010-2011 academic years.
In order to develop sports classes more effectively, Guide in Types of Sports for General Educational Institutions (VII-XII forms) is created by the joint effort of National Curriculum and Assessment Center of MES, Ilia State University and Sport Federations. 26 types of sports are included in the booklet (games, duel and individual types).
Presentation of the new textbooks was held in Tbilisi Public School №142. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini and Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Lado Vardzelashvili introduced the textbooks to around 100 teachers of sport of Gldani region.
The school chooses at least 3 types of sport from the list. Girls as well as boys will be able to participate jointly or individually.
Material in the curriculum is divided according to the forms. Didactic principles of teaching are followed, particularly the accessibility principle.
School children’s anatomic, physiological and psychological characteristics were considered by the authors. This will enable trainer-teachers to understand actuality of material and use them correctly in the teaching process.
Gym of Tbilisi Public School №142 was rehabilitated by MES during current year. It is one of the largest gyms in Tbilisi. 43,000GEL was allocated for the renovation works. 1,130 school children study in this school. Most of them follow some kind of sport. Teams of this school several times won in basketball and football competitions that were held throughout Georgia.
