Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini and Rector of Ilia State University, Gigi Tevzadze visited Earth Sciences Institute and got familiarized with the unique geological multifunction technique GMSYS 2009 that was invented by Georgian scientists.
Instrument that was created by Georgian geophysicists includes three main components. It can be used for the seismic observations as well as fields of geophysics, environment protection and safety. It differs from the foreign similar devises with flexibility, low cost and opportunities of modernization.
NATO and its member countries have already purchased the system invented by Georgian scientists. The USA and Turkey expressed willingness to buy it as well.
“Georgian technological production gained international and strategic recognition. Establishing of technoparks is important for the development of Georgian science. Georgian scientists will be able to patent their inventions as well as make products at the place. Technoparks will create additional vacancies and also raise the financing of scientists”-noted Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini.
Institute also conducts research in the field of natural sciences, observes earthquakes, assesses seismic danger and implements scientific and practical works. Institution receives information from 10 seismic stations (Oni, Akhalkalaki, Kashkhali of Enguri, Davit Gareji, Dusheti, Ninotsminda) and several stations of Tbilisi as well as the neighbor countries and international stations online. Institute immediately informs Municipal Department of Emergency Situation about the earthquake.
The seismic network of Earth Sciences Institute of Ilia State University consists of 30 stations. The number of stations will become 40 by the end of the year.
