Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini and MP, deputy of Saburtalo district, Giorgi Meladze attended the final round of Basketball tournament, held between the Public Schools of Saburtalo district.

The competition was held between 16 Public Schools by the initiative of the young generation of Unified National Movement. Public School №52 took the first place. Giorgi Meladze awarded the winner team with a Cup, medals and certificates. The best player of the team, Giorgi Amirkhanashvili was awarded with the portable computer by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini. Teams of the First Experimental School and Public School №64 that took the second and the third places were awarded with the medals and certificates as well.

Adults’ interest in sports is increasing. By the initiative of the President, physical fitness lessons were replaced with the sports classes in the Public Schools from the new academic year. Amendments were made in the National Curriculum, reflected in the integration of physical education and different types of sports, being implemented in the Public Schools.

School competitions are held in three types of sports: football, basketball and volleyball. The schools choose them independently. The tournaments are held in several rounds and girls along with boys participate in it.

Parliamentarians, representatives of different agencies, famous sportsmen and sport experts support the President’s initiative that envisages popularization of sports among the youngsters.
