Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini held a working meeting with the education stakeholders and presented the report of 2010 reforms to them. Scientists, Heads of Educational Resource-Centers, teachers, schoolchildren, students and volunteer foreign teachers were among the guests. Minister spoke about the innovations, that were introduced during a year in the system and presented the planned activities.
Particular attention was drawn on the changes concerning the advancement of teaching/learning process. Schoolchildren’s attendance at the lessons as well as abolishment of unreasonable missing can be considered as the main achievements. Crime is exterminated from schools. MES is focused on the programs that support increasing of motivation and advancement of education level. They envisage education programs as well as rehabilitation of infrastructure, refurbishment, equipment with the modern devises and teaching labs. Training of the different subject matter teachers is underway. All teachers will pass certification by 2014.
Interesting programs are offered at higher educational institutions. Students and young scientists are permanently encouraged, important scientific projects and researches are funded as well as techno parks are developed.
According to Dimitri Shashkini, despite already carried reforms, MES still faces numerous challenges that will be implemented step by step.
