In the history of National Educational Olympiad, 2011 marked a record number of participants. Up to 85 000 passed the first round of selection and made it to the second round. The second round is being held in 65 cities and 91 rayon centers across Georgia.
The second round of the Olympiad began on January 9 in Informatics; on January 11 it was held in Foreign Language and Mathematics, on January 12 - In History and Physics. Second round in Georgian Language and Chemistry will be organized on January 13, Geography and Biology is scheduled for January 14.
On the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science Olympiad is held in different subjects. Encouraging gifted children and stimulating learning process are among the goals of Olympiad. In Humanities the schoolchildren must demonstrate factual knowledge, they also should be able to interpret various sources, express their opinions and arguments and think critically. In technical subjects the schoolchildren should reveal theoretical knowledge in the given field and be able to practically apply the acquired knowledge while solving practical tasks.
