Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Nodar Surguladze and UEFA Vice President Senesh Erzik opened a school tournament in Football “School Ball” held at “Irao” Stadium. On the first day of the tournament 8 schools of Vake- Saburtalo district competed against one another.
The project “School Ball” is organized in three rounds: qualification, final and international rounds.
All interested schools are eligible to participate in the qualification round, after that, the teams will be divided according to districts/ regions and winner groups will be identified that will later play in regional qualifications rounds.
The final round of the tournament will be held in Batumi and 16 rayon champions will participate in it. The finalist team will take part in international round. It is interesting that Georgian young players always win the prizes in international rounds.
The aim of the school tournament in Football “School Ball” is to popularize Football and promote a healthy life style among young people. The organizers of this tournament are: Georgian Football Association, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and Georgian Street Football Association.
“School Ball” has been held from 2007 throughout Georgia and annually 1500 public schools and up to 1500 schoolchildren participate in the competition.
