Tbilisi City Hall with support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is implementing the project “Let’s Read Books”.  In the scope of the project the students of Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgian State University read literature together with schoolchildren of 4th and 5th grades at public libraries of Tbilisi. The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Koka Sepherteladze attended one of such events.

On April 9, at Tbilisi Main Library 30 schoolchildren of Tbilisi Public Schools №24 and №30 attended the public reading of literature. Future actor Lasha Gurgenidze informed the schoolchildren about the tragic events of April 9, 1989. Such meetings with schoolchildren of 4th and 5th grades were organized at 5 different libraries of Tbilisi.

The project “Let’s Read the Books” is aimed to popularize books and to support the process of raising literacy among schoolchildren. In this regard Readers’ Clubs were created at different public libraries of Tbilisi and meetings with the schoolchildren are regularly held at the libraries. The literature for the schoolchildren is selected upon advice of philologists and children’s psychologist.
