The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Koka Sepherteladze opened the Fifth International Olympiad at Georgian Technical University. The International Olympiad is held in programming. The Olympiad is dedicated to Ilia Vekua, well-known mathematician and public figure of Georgia.
Traditionally the tours of Olympiad also will take place in Novosibirsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the cities where Ilia Vekua worked. The teams from Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Moldova have arrived to Tbilisi. The Olympiad will be closed and the winners will be awarded on May 2.
The winners of Olympiad will be awarded with not only Ilia Vekua Cup but also with two special prizes. The best international team (in Tbilisi) will be awarded with Niko Muskhelishvili Prize and best team from South Caucasus will be awarded with Evgeni Ponkratievi Prize. The Georgian participants will be awarded with Iveri Prangishvili Prize established by Georgian Technical University.
Georgian students and young programmers participate in the Olympiad. Georgian Technical University hosts the International Olympiad for the first time. Previous two Olympiads were organized at Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University and Saint Andrew the First Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia.
