Results of the Research about Crime and Safety in Georgia

First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Koka Sepherteladze and Deputy Chief Prosecutor Davit Sakvarelidze visited Tbilisi Public School # 1 and held presentations for the schoolchildren of upper classes on the results of the research about Crime and Safety in Georgia.

“Research about Crime and Safety – Georgia 2011” was conducted by the Research Center “Gorbi” with the initiative of the Ministry of Justice and financial support of European Union. The subject of the research was the safety of the society and it was conducted in all regions of Georgia. As the research showed, Georgia is one of the safest countries in the Europe.

One of the topics of the research was children’s safety at schools. 87% of the interviewed people think that situation at schools have changed this year. This is a result of the Ministry’s program of “Safe School”. The office of school resource officers has been established, safe zones have been created at schools, and the credit card system has been launched.

On the initiative of the Ministry the representatives of prosecutors’ office, legal services and police regularly meet schoolchildren.

School violence was decreased by 80%, more schoolchildren are attended the classes, parents feel more secure about their children’s safety at schools.
