Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini opened a new learning center at the Vocational College “Ikarosi”. The center prepares elevator electro- mechanics. This is a demanded profession of the labor market.
There are up to 10 00 elevators in the living blocks of Tbilisi, 1000-in Kutaisi, 1500 in Adjara Region, up to 1000 in Zugdidi, Poti, as well as in Kakheti and Kartli regions. In total, there are 15 000 elevators in living blocks and different buildings around Georgia. At the same time, escalators and carousels are also in need of repair.
The state program envisages undertaking rehabilitation of the elevators. Nevertheless, the persons who are engaged in repairing of the elevators, carousels and escalators lack a theoretical knowledge.
The Vocational College “Ikarosi” in collaboration with the foreign and Georgian experts developed a standard and learning course of the elevator electro-mechanics. The program course will be supervised by experienced and leading specialists in this field to prepare professional personnel. This in turn will ensure a safety of the population.
Currently, more than 277 students study at “Ikarosi” and pursue various programs in tourism and service sectors.
The college is focused on developing tourism industry, it also takes into account the employer’s needs and demands. Hence, the college trains qualified personnel for the service and tourism sectors.
The center trains professionals in following specializations of tourism: cook, barman, waiter, receptionist, hotel booking, also specialists in the art of cuisine, restaurant and hotel businesses.
The center is provided with the latest technical equipments and it has a modern infrastructure. Along with the local teachers, the center also hosts guest specialist, the cook Manuel is among them who offers cookery classes. The Center also has workshops for all professions.
