New Textbook Competition is Finished

Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has finished the process of new textbooks evaluation for grades 1st to 6th. The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Koka Sepherteladze and Director of National Curriculum and Assessment Center Natia Jokhadze summed up the results of the contest.
The contest for school textbooks approval intends to support schools and students through providing quality textbooks. The purpose of it is to ascertain whether the textbooks meet the National Curriculum requirements methodologically and technically.
Important changes have been made in textbook approval rule. Contest procedures have been improved and textbook evaluation criteria were strictly determined.
Legal and physical entities (authors/group of authors) could take part in the contest. Participants had to produce textbook/series of textbooks in one subject including textbook package built on the same concept for 1st to 6th grades according to the National Curriculum 2011-2016.
Textbook/series were evaluated according to Textbook Evaluation Criteria and Textbook Model Technical Parameters. Textbook/series of textbook should get over 90% (content) of determined barriers of maximum sum points; otherwise textbook would not be approved.
During 2011-2012 academic years - the first stage of the new National Curriculum will be introduced at the primary education level (I-VI grades). And students will be provided with high quality textbooks.
