The decision to introduce this new subject was made by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the goal of ensuring safe traffic on Georgia's roads. The program is expected to contribute greatly to the nation's overall safety.

The textbook was created by the Patrol Police Faculty of the Police Academy. The textbook consists of two parts: a theoretical textbook and a textbook of practical exercises, with thematic 1010 tests to obtain a driving license. Teachers of the new subject have already been trained at the Police Academy.

The schoolchildren will take automatic driver lessons (theoretical) at schools. Upon a successful competition of the course, the schoolchildren will receive temporary drivers’ licenses, at age 17, free of charge. Schoolchildren will need their parents’ consent to participate in these classes. The schoolchildren will have the right to drive the cars in the streets, though they will not be allowed to drive public passenger vehicles.

At the age of 18, these young adults will also be able to obtain an international driving license free of charge.
