The collections of Georgian written monuments were included in the UNESCO project called "Memory of the World" in 2011. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and UNESCO Secretary General of National Committee, Ketevan Kandelaki, and the Director of National Center of Manuscript, Buba Kudava, held a joint briefing on this issue.

The “Memory of the World” project, developed by the National Center of Manuscripts, was submitted to UNESCO with support of Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and UNESCO Secretary General of National Committee.

The aforementioned collection reflects Georgian-Byzantine relations in the VIII- X centuries and is of huge importance for the world history of culture; the collection counts 500 manuscripts and it includes a number of unique translations of Byzantine written monuments, some of which are the only source left for history within these centuries.

Along with Georgian historical written sources documentary monuments from Armenia, France, Kazakhstan, Portugal, The USA and Angola are on the new world manuscript list of UNESCO. The Georgian collection is the largest.

The UNESCO program "Memory of the World" includes 245 manuscripts of different countries across the world.
