Upon the initiative of the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, the Batumi Georgian Dance Company “Khorumi” departed for Malta last week. Seventy members of the Batumi Dance Company, who are the students of Batumi public schools, are taking an intensive English language course in the framework of an MES educational program.

Adjarian students have the opportunity to enhance their English language knowledge and become acquainted with the country's cultural and politcal significance and traditions. Together with their peers in Malta, they are also taking part in various sports events. The representative of the Malta International Association of Culture in Georgia provided assistance to the Ministry in organizing the visit of the dance company.

The Dance Company “Khorumi” has functioned under the patronage of the President of Georgia since 2004.  Currently, it has its own training studio. The Government of Adjara provides the costumes for the Dance Company. The company members are presented with opportunity to stage concerts abroad at least three times annually.
