Starting in 2012, vocational colleges will be funded based on per capita model. The state will grant those students who choose to study in accredited vocational colleges with a 1000 GEL voucher. The Georgian government has allocated 7 million GEL for this purpose.
State vouchers will be granted to socially vulnerable students,
schoolchildren who completed the basic level of education in the current
academic year, and the twelfth graders who wish to pursue a professional
education after graduating from secondary school.
The new model of financing will promote the development of vocational programs oriented towards the labor market, enhance the learning programs, and increase employment as the colleges become oriented on self development.
Supporting the development of vocational education is one of the priorities of
the Ministry; the infrastructure of the vocational educational institutions was
upgraded, new learning programs were developed, and a new teacher standard for the vocational
colleges was adopted.
By the initiative of the
Ministry, informational centers will be established to inform the citizens on
all options of receiving a vocational education.
