A Museum of Zoology was renovated and opened in Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University as part of the project “Development of Infrastructure of Universities”, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
Today, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and the Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Aleksandre Kvitashvili, visited the museum together with school students.
Renovation work at the museum was carried out during this past year. The museum features more than 5,000 expositions, which have been restored for the first time since 1945.
From now on, students from various regions of Georgia will have the opportunity to visit the museum along with other guests. Natural science classes are also planned to be organized in the museum. Additionally, museum staff will offer educational tours to schoolchildren according to programs specially designed for adults.
The Zoology Foundation of Tbilisi State University was established in 1912. Later, by the initiative of academic Niko Keckhoveli, the Museum of Zoology was founded on the basis of this institution.
The Museum of Zoology is one of the richest museums in the South Caucasus. Its expositions are interesting not only for the visitors, but are also important for carrying out scientific and educational activities.
