By initiative of the President of Georgia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice will launch a new program for the prevention of juvenile crime. Today, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and the First Deputy of General Prosecutor, Davit Sakvarelidze, held a meeting with psychologists and representatives of non-governmental organizations and social services.

As it was decided during the meeting, a special policy on juvenile crime prevention will be developed by the Ministries. According to the policy, school students will be able to participate in different social, educational, and sports activities. This is aimed to decrease the probability of crime among youngsters.

Currently, several programs aimed to prevent juvenile crime, as well as promote the re-socialization and reintegration of juvenile delinquets, are underway. The Ministry of Justice is implementing the following programs to avert the possibility of problemetaic children digressing into delinquency: “My Older Friend”, “Juvenile Diversion and Mediation”, “Public Prosecutor”, “Leaders’ House”, “Mediation at School”, “Psychologists’ Consultation”, and “Healthy Lifestyle.”

Psychologists and representatives of non-governmental organizations and social services will also take part in developing of these policies and programs.
