SROs – 2 years in service

2 years ago, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia established the institute of school resource officers. On April 12, 2010 SROs began service in 10 pilot schools of Tbilisi. By the end of that academic year, SROs covered schools of almost all regions of Georgia.

At the moment 1500 SROs work in public schools of Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Poti, Gori, Rustavi, Kvareli, Telavi,Tskaltubo, Samtredia, Terjola, Tchiatura, Gurdjaani, Zestaphoni, Dedoplistskaro, Mtskheta, Kareli, Kaspi, Khashuri, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Dusheti, Lanchkhuti, Chokhatauri, Ozurgeti, Kobuleti, Tsalenjikha, Senaki, Abasha and Martvili.

The measures taken jointly by SROs for the last 2 years have resulted in a positive outcome. As the recent researches show, violence has been reduced by 95%, vandalism by 90%, facts of conflicts between school students by 80%, facts of skipping classes by 75%. 

Today, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini met SROs and congratulated them with 2 year anniversary. Minister awarded 10 best SROs with portable computers. Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili and Member of the Parliament Goka Gabashvili also attended the event.
