Minister’s interview for Ekho Moskvy

Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini was interviewed by the journalist of Russian radio station – “Echo of Moscow”. Journalist, Ekaterine Kotrikadze expressed much interest in the issue of teaching Russian language at Georgian schools.

As Minister stated, there are 11 Russian language schools in regions, 2 Russian language schools in Tbilisi and 39 schools with Russian language sectors. School students in Georgia are free to choose the foreign language they want to study. Though, English language remains the most demanded foreign language in Georgia. This year, 73 % of entrants have registered to take a foreign language exam at Unified National Exams this year.

According to the Minister, on the one hand Georgian population respects Russian culture, but on the other hand, Georgians still condemn Russian aggression towards Georgia in 2008.

During the interview Minister also talked about the current education reforms, safe school concept and importance of school resource officers, as well as Unified National Exams and High School Leaving Exams.
