Davit Bakradze met CERN director

Chairperson of Parliament of Georgia, Davit Bakradze met Rolf-Dieter Heuer, professor, General Director of European organization of Nuclear Research, (CERN). During his visit to Georgia, Prof. Heuer will also hold meetings with Georgian scientists, the rectors of higher educational institutions, students and participants of international summer school of science.

Cooperation between Georgia and CERN was discussed during a meeting with the chairperson of Parliament.

Prof. Heuer has been the general director of CERN since 2009. In 2011, a memorandum was signed between the Government of Georgia and CERN that envisages engaging more Georgian scientists in the researches undertaken at CERN.

New scientific programs also started functioning and scientists and researchers from CERN pay visits to Georgia to deliver public lectures. At the same time, Georgian teachers of Physics and students of Physics faculty had opportunity to visit CERN and share experience.

This year, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in cooperation with CERN hosts an international summer school of sciences in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Collaboration with CERN is very significant in further developing of natural science subjects. Currently, 33 Georgian scientists work in CERN, while the center has recruited only 37 researchers from Ukraine and 42 from South Korea.

The government of Georgia has elaborated a comprehensive plan for further development of science and allocated 25 million GEL in the budget. This will allow Georgian scientists to get involved in international scientific projects.
