In order to develop and promote scientific fields, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in cooperation with CERN opened the International Scientific Summer School.
Summer School is located in Bakuriani and 110 school students are enrolled in it. 70 of them are from different public schools of Georgia, while the rest 40 school students are from Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan. These school students are the winners of National School Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics.
The school students have chance to attend the lectures of Georgian and foreign experts and to take part in practical laboratory lessons. All lessons are delivered in English language.
The students of the Summer School leave in different houses named after famous scientists. The houses are competing with each other in different intellectual and sports competitions and are gaining some extra points. The students also have chance to create their own interest groups and plan some activities.
In 2011, a memorandum was signed between the Government of Georgia and CERN that envisages engaging more Georgian scientists in the researches undertaken at CERN.
New scientific programs also started functioning and scientists and researchers from CERN pay visits to Georgia to deliver public lectures. At the same time, Georgian teachers of Physics and students of Physics faculty had opportunity to visit CERN and share experience.
