A New Minister of Education and Science was appointed

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, introduced a new Minister – Ms. Khatia Dekanoidze to the Ministry’s staff. The President wished a success to a newly appointed Minister and highlighted an importance of continuation of the ongoing reforms in education sphere.

“The main focus of the current reforms should be a teacher. The teachers should always have motivation to enhance their professional qualification. Furthermore, the schoolchildren should be able to pass the exams without private tutors”, remarked the President in his speech.

Mr. Mikheil Saakashvili also talked about an importance of teacher certification and increased salaries. Raised salaries are significant factor for the teachers to improve their qualification, highlighted the President.

The President also discussed a new model of the exams and noted that, back several years ago; the unified national exams were important accomplishment. Nevertheless, the reforms should be further continued and the National Examinations Center should be operating all 12 months instead of 1 month a year.  The center shall be open for everyone and the schoolchildren should be able take exams every month, stated the President.
