Considering the special interest of school leavers, teachers and the society, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has developed a new model of school leaving procedure in the shortest period. The new model logically matches the completion of certain mandatory part of some subjects. This will make examination process flexible for students.
At the end of academic year, according to new model, 11-th graders will have to pass exams in the following subjects: physics, chemistry, biology and geography, whereas 12-th graders will have to pass exams in Georgian language and literature, foreign language, math and history.
In spite of fail in any of the subjects, 11-th graders continue their studies and pass the failed exam along with other subjects.
Due to specific character of the new model, at the end of 2012-2013 academic year institutions of general education will have to provide conducting of high school exams for 12-th graders.
As an exception, at the end of 2012-2013 academic year, instead of passing exams in May, students will not pass the high school exams in May, the students will pass them in October of the upcoming year, thus they will have enough time for preparation.
Starting from next year National Examinations Center will conduct the exams. They will be computer-based and will be conducted according to the CAT model.
In order to continue studies in higher educational institutions, entrants will traditionally pass unified entry examinations in July.
The Ministry of Education and Science is starting its work on the concept, which will determine complex changes that should be carried out in the system of education. The final modification of the high school exams model will be developed after elaboration of the above mentioned concept, while maintaining the basic principles.
