8 Vocational colleges will re-train up to 900 tractor operators

With the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and UNDP, up to 900 tractor operators will be retrained during the period of 35 days at state vocational colleges of Kachreti, Akhaltsikhe, Ambrolauri, Kobuleti, Ozurgeti, Senaki, Gori and Didi Jikhaishi.

Davit Kirvalidze, Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Ketevan Natriashvili, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, James McGoldrick, Head of UNDP Program and Vazha Nakhutsrishvili, Director of Ltd “Mekanizatori” signed an Agreement on educational program of machine operators.

As Davit Kirvalidze noted, the Ministry is planning to have modern tractors and farming machines in large numbers in order to cultivate more arable land. Retrained operators will be able to use modern machines.  

Educational program for machine operators was elaborated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia with the support of UNDP. Retraining of tractor operators will be provided by the Ministry.

Training courses will be conducted during the period of February-April, 2013. Training process of course instructors has already ended.

According to the Agreement, EMIS (Education Management Information System), Vocational Colleges “Spektri” and “Mermisi” shall provide:

  • Facilities for employed vocational students and staff.
  • Infrastructure, material and technical base for working space.
  • Selection of students for employment as a result of the competition.
  • Selection of the staff responsible for database of landowners, monitoring the information entered in the database by the students and data registration.

Ltd. “Mekanizatori” will hire the graduates for farming during spring.
