New textbook “Georgian Language for children of preschool level belonging to ethnic minority groups” was published for ethnic minority kindergartens. The publication includes a workbook and an album together with methodological textbook for kindergarten teachers with supplementary audio material.
In 2011-2012 piloting process of the textbook was launched in 8 preschool centers of 6 municipalities in Georgia (Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe, Bolnisi, Dmanisi, Marneuli and Ninotsminda). 147 children and 8 teachers from ethnic minority groups participated in the piloting process. Certain changes were introduced to the textbook as a result of the piloting process.
This year, additionally 12 kindergarten teachers from 6 municipalities (Akhmeta, Telavi, Lagodekhi, Rustavi, Gardabani and Tsalka) will be trained based on the textbook materials.
The new publications will be handed to project beneficiary preschool centers. More than 700 preschool level children will be able to use the textbooks. Electronic versions of the publications will be uploaded on the official web-site of electronic library of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia elibrarly.emis.ge
Natia Jokhadze, Head of National Curriculum Department and authors of the textbook made the presentation. The meeting was attended by representatives from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), “Save the Children”, Georgian Portage Association, higher educational institutions, unions of preschool educational institutions and other guests.
The program “Providing accessibility, quality and equality of education in Georgian educational system” is carried out with the joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and UNICEF. The aim of the Project sub-program “Preschool education policy in Georgia for equal accessibility and quality enhancement of early age education for children” is to encourage preschool education. Within the framework of the project, the new textbook was developed by National Curriculum Department.
