Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia. The agreement on implementation of joint programs aimed at ensuring rehabilitation and social integration of convicts was signed by Giorgi Margvelashvili and Sozar Subari.

The goal of the Memorandum is to provide access to general and vocational education for the convicts, their social integration and increase of employment possibilities. For this aim, within the framework of the Memorandum, program “Education Accessibility in Penitentiary Establishments” will be launched.

The Ministry of Education together with the Ministry of Corrections will provide convicts with adequate educational environment and desired vocational programs, textbooks and other materials necessary for learning. Teachers of general educational institutions working with convicts will be trained.

With the aim of ensuring transparency of the program “Education Accessibility in Penitentiary Establishments” and prevention of crimes, a board of trustees comprised of representatives from the two Ministries and non-governmental organizations will be set up. Monitoring group will provide coordination and monitoring of the joint programs.
