International Competition Aliante 2010 Begins

Aliante is the most successful international competition about NATO and international affairs issues. The participants of the competition are youngsters from 15-19 years of all public schools and higher educational institutions. The competition gives the students opportunity to improve their knowledge in the defense and NATO related issues. The winners will travel in different NATO member countries, visit military bases and meet with peers.

“Aliante 2010” is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, State Ministry of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration as well as Tbilisi City Hall, the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Poland and the department of NATO Public Diplomacy. 13 NATO member and partner countries are involved in this project.

Georgia has been participating in this international competition for two years and succeeded in both years. Therefore, in 2010, for first time of the competition’s 10-year history, the international final will be held in Georgia, as a winner country.

The participants of Aliante will have to pass the national and international competitions, show their knowledge and ability to cooperate in difficult conditions. Two rounds will be carried out based on the general education. The best groups will take participation in the international competition where they will compete in physical fitness and endurance.

The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, the Director on Information Center on NATO Tengiz Gogotishvili , the coordinator of the national competition “New Generation – New Initiative” , also the  representatives of  the Ministry of Defense of Georgia officially announced  the beginning of the competition.
